Shibuya Medical Association provides the following cancer screening services on behalf of the ward.
Eligibility is limited to residents of Shibuya Ward as of the date of the examination. Please check the age range for each type of cancer screening as the eligible age varies.

Cancer Screening
Three times per year, the Shibuya Public Health Center sends out free coupons to people who are eligible for the checkup and who meet the criteria below. You will receive your coupon sometime around your birthday.
- People who have had a cancer screening in Shibuya Ward in the past three years
- People who are 20, 40, 50, 60 or 70 years old

Note: Free screening coupons will not be sent out to people who have recently moved to the ward or who are eligible for medical examinations other than those mentioned above.

Gastric Cancer Screening

The following people are not eligible
Barium X-ray screening
- People who have had a gastrectomy
- People who are hypersensitive to barium sulfate products
- Pregnant (or possibly pregnant) women
Gastrointestinal endoscopy
- People who have had a total gastrectomy
- People taking antithrombotic drugs (anticoagulants, antiplatelet drugs, and other blood-thinning drugs)
Note: You cannot be examined even if you have discontinued such medication. - People who are allergic to Lidocaine (a drug used to anesthetize the throat and is injected into the gums during a tooth extraction)
※ You may not be able to see a doctor in the following circumstance. Please notify the doctor in advance.
- You are undergoing treatment or are being monitored for gastrointestinal diseases or similar ailment, or have a history of such conditions.
- You have abnormal thyroid function, heart disease or high blood pressure
- You have asthma, glaucoma, or an enlarged prostate (these conditions make it impossible to use antispasmodic medications to reduce stomach tension and movement)

Lung Cancer Screening

The following people are not eligible
- Women who have had a total hysterectomy
- Women who are menstruating (see the doctor three days after your period)
- Women who are currently pregnant (or possibly pregnant) or undergoing treatment (vaginismus or irregular bleeding, etc.) should consult their healthcare provider.

Prostate Cancer Screening (Medical Association special service): 1,000 yen (tax included)
Shibuya Medical Association offers a special prostate cancer screening for men over 40 years of age.
Prostate cancer screening is not offered as a stand-alone service. Please note that this examination is performed only in conjunction with the free cancer screening offered by Shibuya Ward and a fee of 1,000 yen will be charged.
